Decorating kitchen wall panels

Kitchen wall panels are made of polyvinyl chloride. This material is universal, hygienic and mechanical properties of PVC make it available for use in residential areas. Another feature that makes PVC suitable material for use in kitchens is a variety of colors and textures. Panels are covered with a laminate, on which any image is applied.

Types of kitchen panels

1

There arethree types of PVC panels, which allow you to quickly and easily carry out repairs:

  1. Assorted panels narrow rake. Such a wall panel for kitchen sizes ranges from 25 to 50 cm. They usually reach a length of 2.6 - 3 m. Such panels are similar to ordinary lining, similar features exist in the method of installation. The best option is to mount it on a wooden or aluminum crate. If the size of the kitchen is small, then before the installation of the frame, the walls are leveled to minimize occupancy of the living space. Joints in the corners are decorated with moldings.
  2. PVC square tile. The dimensions of this product range from 30x30 cm to 98x98 cm. With the help of these panels, various motifs or patterns are laid out, according to the principle of laying ordinary tiles for walls, combining different sizes and color solutions. To install such a tile, a frame made of a wooden base is also installed. Tiles are assembled among themselves according to the "comb-groove" principle.
  3. Panels for kitchen sheet. Such material is a large monolith, on average it is about 1.22 m at 2.44 m. Various images, prints and patterns are also applied to its surface. The thickness of this material is smaller, which makes it more suitable for installation in small-size rooms - 3-6 mm. For sheet panels there is no special butt fittings, all seams are filled with a usual sealant or covered with a rack profile. On all wall panels, the price varies, depending on the quality and type of material execution.

Preparatory work before installing the

kitchen panels At the beginning of the work, it is necessary to take care of the availability of materials that will be needed for installation. This applies not only to the panels, but also to the instruments. The shopping list will include:

  • wall panels of the selected type;
  • corners;
  • slats made of wood;
  • dowels;
  • level of construction;
  • staples;
  • measuring tape;
  • profiles;
  • pencil for marks;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • impregnation for protection.

Before installation, evaluate the degree of flatness of the walls on which the panels are to be mounted. If the walls are sufficiently level, and the room itself with a small level of dampness, then it is possible to mount the panels directly on the wall using glue. In rooms with a high humidity level, the installation is carried out on a frame made of wooden slats. In this case, the price for kitchen wall panels will increase slightly, as the cost of additional materials will increase. Also, a frame made of wooden slats allows to level the walls without plastering.

When installing the frame, there is some space, which is filled with insulation material. This measure is not necessary, but will not only reduce the level of noise coming into the room from outside, but also make it warmer, since noise insulation materials are kept by warm air streams. Also, this method is good, if it is necessary to hide the wiring, communications or wall shortcomings.

For walls with irregularities, which are not planned to install bars for panels, preliminary work is required. The wall is well cleaned of dust and dirty plaque, and then left for a while. The wall must be completely cleaned, do not have the remains of the previous decorative coating, this applies to any type of material - paint, wallpaper, plaster, etc., is necessary for better setting of the glue with the surface. The wall is leveled with putty, if irregularities are very pronounced, then plastering works are necessary. After doing all the preparatory work, the wall is treated with emery.

Calculation of the material required for mounting

  1. One of the most critical stages is the calculation of the required amount of material that will minimize the cost of repairs. For the correct calculation it is necessary to know the exact dimensions of the panels themselves. Further, the width of the kitchen walls is measured, the total area is divided by the width of the panel. The resulting number and will mean the exact number of panels. But often the number does not work out whole, some panels have to be trimmed carefully and adjusted to fit.
  2. The calculations take into account the area of door and window openings, this value is subtracted from the total area. The surface around them is treated with scraps. Fastening of wall panels in the kitchen is done with the help of corners and profiles, the number of which must also be approximately calculated. During installation, it is necessary to leave small gaps between the sheets, since the panels have the property of expanding with time. Also come with the height adjustment of the panels - a gap of no more than 10 mm is left between the panel, the floor and the ceiling.
  3. In the second stage, cut the panels in the required quantity and dimensions. If a hacksaw is used for cutting, the cuts are made only on the front side of the product. When using a circular saw, the incision is made from the bottom side. Smooth cut is obtained if at first slightly cut the coating, and then, with great force, cut the panel itself. The knife is kept strictly perpendicular to the surface.
  4. To make the lines smooth, you need to use a flat bar or ruler. Also, do not forget about the holes for the sockets and switches. Before installation, the panels are kept in a room with a standard room temperature of about half a day, this is necessary to equalize the moisture level of the material and the environment. The material is left unpacked.

Installation of kitchen panels with

glue The kitchen panel is completed with silicone, acrylic or universal glue for construction works. When carrying out the work, it is necessary to follow the manufacturer's recommendations, which are indicated on the packaging. Work starts from the inner corner of the room, then continues to move along the perimeter. Glue is applied to the entire area of the panel, even stripes along the long edge, a strip 3 cm wide, a little glue is applied to the center at intervals of 20 cm. The panels do not adhere tightly, they leave gaps of several millimeters. Further, these gaps fill with sealant. Slots are left at the joints of panels with window and door openings.

On the edges of the wall panels for the kitchen sheet-mounted profiles made of plastic, they are selected by color. All profiles are filled with sealant. The panel is applied to the surface, pressed and taped with a hammer so that the adhesive is well attached to the substrate. To ensure that the material is well entrenched, the supports are attached to the panels. The remains of the sealant are wiped with rags, the sheets are reinforced with nails or screws, this measure is only used if necessary.

Mounting of kitchen panels on wooden frame

  1. The installation of panels on a wooden frame begins with the installation of the base. Prepare the bars of wood, their size in thickness is selected, depending on whether there will be a layer of insulation between the panels and the wall. When deciding on the use of noise insulation materials, remember that the panels also delay the sound.
  2. Labels are placed on the work surface. At this stage, you should determine the placement of the material - if the plastic wall panels for the kitchen are placed vertically, then the racks are located in the horizontal plane. It should be noted that the installation of panels is possible not only in the horizontal position, but also in the vertical, or diagonally. But the carcass bars are always perpendicular.
  3. On the executed marking fasten a skeleton dowels or саморемими.The step between the bars is 50 cm, to ensure the reliability of fastening. The finished frame is treated with impregnation to protect it from moisture. Then the brackets are fixed with the angular profiles. The material begins to be fastened to the frame starting from the upper left corner and moving to the window or doorway. Installation of the fixing edge is made on the slats made of wood. There are also staples for fixing.
  4. Each subsequent panel falls on the groove of the previous one. All edges are fastened to the crate. Each time, you need to check the panel mounting level with the tool. The latest panel fits into the groove of the corner, it will close the connection. After the installation of all panels, a skirting board and other decorative elements are installed that complete the picture.

Installation of glass panels for the kitchen

Another version of the wall panel for the kitchen is glass. The most important advantage of this material is design. Glass panels are combined with most modern materials and furniture design. This type of material has a lower cost than tiles, while any image is applied to the surface, which will not cost much at all.

Also among the advantages of glass panels is their compliance with the parameters of a room like a kitchen. They are not afraid of humidity, temperature and greasy stains. The surface of the glass panel is easily cleaned from any contamination. Shows all the beauty of the glass wall panels for the kitchen photo below.

The third advantage of the material is a simple installation. Glass wall panels for the kitchen are mounted quite simply - with the help of mounting films, which are attached to the decorative elements of installation. The main part of the mounting base is screwed into the wall or reinforced with glue. Preferably the option with screwing, as it will allow easy dismantling of the panel if necessary. Glass panels, along with sheet plastic material, help remove all the imperfections and unevenness of the wall. To do this, they are installed at some distance from the surface.

Rules for installing kitchen panels and recommendations

To avoid various unpleasant situations during installation, as well as for the most optimal use of panels, you must adhere to certain rules:

  1. Kitchen panels provide the application of any pattern, color and texture. Decorative processing takes place with the help of special methods of drawing an image. The range of patterns is not limited - wood, stone, oriental motifs and so on. If the pattern is applied on its own, then it must be protected with a special coating - glossy or matte. This is necessary for protection against dust, moisture and ultraviolet, because of which the pattern will quickly lose its saturation.
  2. Panels made from wood shavings or fibers are covered with veneer or varnish, this is acceptable only for substrates with low humidity and without pronounced unevenness. In the case of flaws on the wall, they are concealed by a crate, to which the panels are mounted with brackets, screws are used from the rear.
  3. Panels are installed using the "groove-groove" or "groove-comb" technique. The last option involves docking the panels among themselves so that all the lines of the picture agree. This is a good option for rooms with high sanitary requirements. The "groove-groove" technique is also implemented in the case of a decorative insert on the panels.
  4. If heavy equipment is installed on the walls, then the fasteners for it are installed on the crate or on the base with long screws. This layout eliminates the installation of glass panels.
  5. For rooms with pronounced wall irregularities, the panels should be mounted on the frame. Or to level the walls to the required level.
  6. Panels come in matt or glossy finish. Glossy surfaces create the appearance of a mirror image and increase the space. But such panels are demanding in the care, dirt from them must be removed often enough, while you can not use cleaning agents with abrasive elements.
  7. In any case, wall panels - it's a budget option for finishing the kitchen walls. It is only necessary to carefully calculate the project in order to determine the necessary amount of material and to finish the walls quickly and easily.
