Required materials

1. Board thickness of 22 millimeters. It will be needed to build a central crossbar and outer panels.

Preliminary work:

1. Calculate the size of the podium.
2. Decide on the location of the structure. Please note, if it is a podium-shaped bed, it will require a larger amount of useful space than a sliding one.
3. On the floor, outline the future dimensions of the bed.
4. Align the bars around the perimeter of the outline. They will serve as a guide for the construction of the frame.

Assembly Tips:

1. It is very important to follow the plan when manufacturing.
2. The basis of the bed is formed by three different blocks. Their sizes are indicated above.
3. The bed spiral and the side unit should be connected at right angles. The third last section divides the base of the structure into two parts, in each of which are installed drawers.
4. The side panels can be removable. This will be required if you want to make a sliding podium.
5. In order to draw drawers freely, rollers with a diameter of about 30 millimeters are installed on them.

How to assemble the

1. blocks First, you need to assemble the blocks. This can be done with pins diameter of 8 millimeters. Beforehand, they need to drill holes.
2. Before joining the block parts, it should be glued with glue and, before drying, compress the structure with clamps.
3. The shortest is the central unit. It is held by four spacers. At the top of its two panels, a groove measuring 100 by 22 millimeters should be made. Through them the central bar will pass.

How to assemble the

1. support frame First, horizontal support bars of 47 by 27 millimeters should be attached to the side of the headboard, side block and back section.
2. After this, the support bars should be installed. They will carry the full load. These details must be arranged so that you have three bars per back and the same number on the head of the bed. One bar should be in the center and two on the edges. The remaining two will be needed for you on the side block. They are placed close enough to each other near the central section.
3. Further on the previously installed load bars, it is necessary to cut the grooves which will be intended for the central crossbeam. Do not forget to drill holes in advance for screws with a diameter of 4.5 millimeters.
4. Next, tighten the T-bolts firmly. They are needed to support the parallel front bars in the normal position. Fasteners are inserted from the side of the drawers.

Assembling a single design

1. Now you need to assemble all the blocks in one piece. First, they should be connected through support bars by tightening the joints with screws.
2. To be more reliable, you also need to drill two holes 9 mm in diameter in adjacent blocks.
3. Then you need to insert the bolts M8 × 50 into them. They should be fixed using nuts.
4. The central unit is connected with bolts by 80 millimeters.

Drawers for beds

1. When deciding how to make a podium bed, think about the further design of the boxes. Their dimensions should correspond to the dimensions of the product.
2. Guide rails for retractable structures can have a maximum length of 60 centimeters. If the capacity of the bed is larger, their dimensions should be increased. Please note, there must be enough space for the drawer to be able to slide out freely.
3. For the installation of the sliding structure, it is necessary to assemble four slats and a bottom. In this case, the back and side walls must have the same height. Since the front bar is designed to fix the facade element, it can be done already. Individual parts are interconnected by means of screws.
4. It is important that the "screw to butt" connection is sufficiently reliable. To do this, all the details are fixed at a small distance from the screwing point.
5. Next, mark the location of the inside of the rails. After that, you can fix them by marking.
6. Next you need to install the finished boxes in the podium-bed.
7. If a laminated chipboard is used in the decoration, even when purchasing the material, you can order the sawing to the required dimensions.
8. When using a plywood sheet, the entire surface should be sanded using fine-grained sandpaper. After that, a good priming and dyeing.

Decorative work on the

1. The crossbeams in front in the central part have a support in the form of a pair of short bars measuring 31 millimeters thick, bolted to the central section. On the edges are placed two T-shaped stops, which are fixed on the back and head of the bed. They are later mounted decorative panel.
2. There are grooves on the ends of the three decorating strips, into which flat spikes are screwed. They are mounted on the front crossbeams, and also on the base of the bed.
3. Each spike should be greased with glue during assembly. Then they are inserted into the groove. This further allows convenient and quick assembly and disassembly of the structure.
4. When the center cross bar is fixed, you can proceed with the installation of the edging. First, along the length and at the edges of the panels of the upper edging, the places where the grooves will be cut will be marked.
5. You can then mount the bezel edging by connecting the bed base with the front cross bars.
6. Next, apply several layers( at least two) of the acrylic primer to the boards using a wide brush.
7. The primed surface should then be ground and varnished in two layers. For this purpose, a semi-mat polyurethane lacquer is suitable.
8. Finally, you need to put the mattress on the finished structure.

Designer's advice

There is an opinion that such a bed can be installed not only in a two-room, but also in a one-room apartment. In fact, this is not so. The fact is that using a catwalk design implies the presence of a large space, which consists of the dimensions of the podium itself, as well as the size of the bed or mattress. If you install all the elements of the product in a one-room apartment, then the free space will decrease at least twice, which is very critical for small-area rooms. Although, as a design solution, this can look attractive.

If the apartment has a separate bedroom with a large enough area, then it can be equipped with a podium bed. True, in this context it is usually understood as a design with drawers.
